Iran regime more dangerous than ISIS, says Giuliani

“The Iranian regime is more dangerous than ISIS and should never be allowed to acquire a nuclear bomb or nuclear power” said former mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani, in a conference in Paris. Giuliani has joined the group of leaders that have recently voiced their opinions about Iran’s nuclear assets; ones they think are a threat to global security.

Talking about the talks between the West and Iran, he has made it clear, that the US should accept nothing less than Iran agreeing to have no nuclear capacity, in its hands. For him, “The basis of this negotiation has always been until it was shifted in the interim agreement. Iran does not need nuclear reactors. Iran does not need the peaceful use of nuclear power. Iran has plenty of power”. Such determined statements by Giuliani, mirror the pressure that has been recently put forward by the US over Iran’s nuclear plan.

For Giuliani, Iran does not want to acquire nuclear power to keep its borders protected; rather it wants it, to have power over its neighbors. In his speech he mentioned how they want it, nuclear “so they can assert themselves, so they can do what they’ve been doing, which is taking over Iraq, taking over Syria”. Moreover, he feared the growing of their state, one that is growing the seeds of extremism and fundamentalism. Giuliani made this clear by saying “Iran has to give up any form of nuclear power. No, we shouldn’t be measuring the amount of enrichment. You know why? There should be nothing to enrich.”

The threat of ISIS is one that is gradually affecting every country. For Giuliani however, Iran is not the key to fight them. He mentioned how we have to see the connection between the different ‘so-called’ forms of Islamic extremist terrorism, and be smart enough to understand that as we try to wipe out ISIS and Al Qaeda to the extent that it still exists, we don’t do it just to make Iran more powerful, stronger, and have greater hegemony. For him, Iran is more dangerous than ISIS, and the world does not need them to wipe out terrorism. Moreover he mentioned how “The United States of America is still the greatest military power in the history of the world”, one that could easily destroy the roots of extremism.

Giuliani also called for urgent protection for Iranian dissidents in Camp Liberty whose lives were at risk of attack every day. He highlighted how “They’re sitting in Liberty and they’re being picked off as if they’re in a shooting gallery, because the United Nations and I say this with the deepest regret, my country, has broken their promise to them” However he promised how every one of the people who had been murdered, has a piece of paper signed by the United States of America guaranteeing them protection.
Talking about hope, for a country that greatly needed it, Giuliani hailed the Iranian Resistance and the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), as the only real alternative to the barbarity of the mullahs ruling in Tehran.
