Tehran, Iran, Sep. 30 – The former commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and secretary general of the powerful State Expediency Council said in a statement that appeared on his own Persian-language website that Iran should resume suspended nuclear work.

Mohsen Rezai told a press conference in the southern city of Shiraz that Europe had failed to deliver on its promise of ending scrutiny of Tehran’s nuclear file by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

“The best approach for us is to violate the part of our agreement [with France, Germany, and the United Kingdom”> which Europe had violated”, the ex-Guards chief said.

“Europe violated its obligations under the Brussels Agreement, so we can continue to assemble centrifuges, something which we had undertaken to suspend under that agreement”, Rezai added.

The former military strongman said the West’s primary concern was not to deprive Iran of nuclear weapons, but to block the country’s acquisition of nuclear technology.

“The fight is over technological progress, not nuclear weapons”, he said.
