Tehran, Iran, Dec. 14 – Iran’s hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced on Wednesday that Iran would never abandon its right to carry out the full nuclear fuel cycle in Iran – a feat which could lead to the development of an atomic bomb – despite the threat of United Nations Security Council referral.

Ahmadinejad accused the West of stockpiling nuclear and chemical weapons while at the same time threatening action on Iran if it continued with its nuclear activities.

He rejected concerns by the international community that Tehran was developing nuclear weapons, and said, “You might have doubts over our intentions, but we don’t have doubts over you; rather we are sure that you do not use these weapons in a peaceful manner and start wars to suit your interests and so that your weapons factories become active”.

Addressing the Iranian nation, Ahmadinejad said, “You, people of Iran, be sure that the government which was created out of your will and determination will, with its reliance on God and your will, continue this path with patience, tolerance, and strength and not back down from the Iranian nation’s definite right in this regard”.

The hard-line president rejected the proposal that Iran not enrich uranium on its own soil in return for foreign nuclear assistance. “We tell the men that make such claims about nuclear fuel, how can you, who do not give us the spare parts for airplanes which we had paid for 30 years ago, claim that we can trust you in regards to giving us the fuel. Who is to say that you would not do the same thing you did regarding the planes when it comes to the fuel”.

“If we back down on the nuclear issue, you will create the same problem for our nuclear energy that you had created regarding the planes. Our nation will not be fooled by you”.
