EU’s Solana ready to present Vienna plan to Iran

Reuters: Europe’s foreign policy chief Javier Solana is ready to travel to Iran to present a package of incentives agreed by world powers for Tehran to give up atomic fuel work, Solana’s spokeswoman said on Saturday. BRUSSELS (Reuters) – Europe’s foreign policy chief Javier Solana is ready to travel to Iran to present a package of incentives agreed by world powers for Tehran to give up atomic fuel work, Solana’s spokeswoman said on Saturday.

“We are prepared to travel to Tehran to present, in the name of the participants of the meeting in Vienna last Thursday, the far-reaching proposals that were agreed,” Cristina Gallach said, adding no date had yet been set for the trip.

“It will not be a negotiating trip. It will be a presentational trip,” Gallach said.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Friday suggested Tehran may have already decided to reject the offers of incentives and negotiations from the six world powers.

On Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said his government would look at the proposals but again hinted Tehran was not prepared to bow to the pressure.

“The main pillar of the talks is that they should be free from preconditions,” he told state television.

Solana is due to travel to the Middle East on Sunday although his official agenda only showed details for his schedule on Monday, when he is due to be in Jerusalem and Ramallah to meet Israeli and Palestinian officials.
