Iranian leaders denounced a U.N. Security Council resolution that gives the country until the end of August to suspend its nuclear program.

“Such resolutions have no credit,” said Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, the speaker of the parliament.

He asked why the Security Council does not act on the crisis in Lebanon and called on other Muslim states to support Iran, the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

Former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, now chairman of the expediency council, also linked the resolution to Lebanon, suggesting that both were part of efforts by western powers to undermine Muslim regimes.

Rafsanjani, who was defeated for the presidency by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, said that Iranians must stand together.

“Under current conditions and recent developments in the region we should exercise vigilance against our opportunist enemy,” he said.
