Tehran, Iran, Aug. 06 – Iran vowed on Sunday to defy the demands of the United Nations Security Council by continuing to enrich uranium.

“The resolution that was released lacks any legal basis and effectively makes this international centre insubstantial. Therefore, we reject it and we will not accept suspension [of uranium enrichment”>”, secretary general of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani told reporters at a press conference.

On Monday, the Security Council adopted by 14 votes to one a legally-binding resolution ordering Tehran to freeze all its uranium enrichment activities.

“We will expand nuclear technology whenever required. This includes all of Iran’s nuclear technology including the centrifuge cascades”, Larijani said, adding that it was the West that had to build Iran’s trust.

“The [Security”> Council is under the influence of the wishes of the United States. We will follow our path with seriousness and continue our nuclear activities. We do not want to limit inspections but the other party must not do something forcing us to react”, he said.

Larijani said that the international community would stand to suffer if it imposed sanctions on Iran. “If they do this, they must face the consequences”, he said.
