Iran Focus: London, Mar. 29 – United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan urged Iran on Tuesday to comply with the demands of the International Atomic Energy Agency over its suspected nuclear weapons program.

Washington Times: In 1995, former Iranian president Ali Hashemi Rafsanjani made a little-noticed trip to the neighboring country of Georgia. He spent several hours in Tbilisi, the capital, and then instead of returning to Iran, he made a secret side trip to the breakaway region of Adjara to visit President Aslan Abashidze.

AP: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Tuesday that Iran was a menace for reasons other than its alleged drive to build a nuclear bomb and that the U.S. and its allies have “a number of tools” if Tehran does not change its ways.

New York Times: European and American diplomats circulated a new draft statement to the Security Council on Tuesday evening that weakens language condemning Iran’s nuclear program but still calls on Tehran to abandon uranium enrichment activities, which the West believes are intended to make weapons.

Reuters: Western powers on the Security Council were optimistic on Tuesday that an agreement could be reached on Iran’s nuclear ambitions before their foreign ministers discuss the issue this week.
