Over 280 protests in Iran in past month – opposition

Iran Focus: London, Aug. 01 – Disenchanted Iranians stated more than 280 anti-government protests, clashes, strikes, and other forms of social unrest throughout Iran over the past month, according to the opposition Mojahedin-e Khalq (MeK, or People’s Mojahedin). Most of the protests and public actions occurred in Tehran and other major cities, including Isfahan, Mashad, Ahwaz, and Tabriz.

AFP: The Danish foreign ministry summoned Iran’s charge d’affaires last week to express its concern over Tehran’s impending resumption of sensitive nuclear work, the ministry said in a statement on Monday. Charge d’affaires Hossein Taleshi Salehani was summoned on July 28 for talks with senior ministry official Anne Dorte Reggelsen.

Reuters: The European Commission urged Iran on Monday against resuming frozen sensitive nuclear work which the West believes could help it develop a bomb. A spokesman for the European Union executive told a press briefing: “The Commission very much hopes for a negotiated solution.
