AFP: Iran’s outgoing reformist President Mohammad Khatami on Wednesday criticised the “obstinacy” of dissident jailed journalist Akbar Ganji in continuing a one-and-a-half month hunger strike. “We are truly awaiting for Mr Ganji to stop his hunger strike and put himself forward to the judicial authorities so that he can use his prerogatives but he has refused to halt his hunger strike,” Khatami told reporters.

EU set to offer Iran limited nuclear incentives
Reuters: Three European Union powers plan to offer Iran a limited package of nuclear, economic and political incentives next week to give up suspect nuclear work amid growing pessimism that Tehran’s leaders will take the bait. Diplomats from Britain, France and Germany are due to hand over the proposals to the Iranian government after new hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad takes office next Wednesday, but signs are growing that they will get a dismissive reception.

AP: Iran said for the first time Wednesday it has fully developed solid-fuel technology in producing missiles, a major breakthrough that increases the accuracy of missiles hitting targets. Defense Minister Ali Shamkhani told The Associated Press that Iran has made an “important step forward” in developing the technology, which provides the Islamic

Three Iran police die in ethnic clashes in W.Iran
Reuters: Three Iranian policemen have died fighting Kurdish insurgents, an official said on Wednesday, as security forces crack down on unrest along the Islamic Republic’s ethnically volatile western borders. Interior Ministry spokesman Jahanbakhsh Khanjani said the men were killed fighting Pezhak forces, an Iranian wing of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) whose separatist campaign is flaring up in southeastern Turkey after a relative lull.

The man only identified as Farshid F. was convicted of murdering five drivers between the years 1998 to 2000 in an attempt to steal their belongings.

Reuters: Iran will resume some key work on its nuclear fuel cycle regardless of what European diplomats might propose to defuse a dispute over its atomic ambitions, Iran’s president said on Wednesday. “Whether Europeans mention our right to resume activities at (the uranium conversion facility at) Isfahan or not, we will definitely resume it regardless,” Mohammad Khatami told reporters.
