regime reacted angrily to Austria’s announcement on Tuesday that it was investigating claims that the newly-elected ultraconservative president was involved in the assassination of an Iranian Kurdish dissident. Foreign Ministry officials summoned Austria’s ambassador in Tehran to lodge a strongly-worded protest against the investigation.

Iran Focus: Tehran, Jul. 06 Irans secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) and chief nuclear negotiator Hassan Rowhani will be replaced with a Revolutionary Guards brigadier general close to the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to two influential hard-line dailies. Jomhouri Islami, once published by Ali Khamenei before he donned the mantle of the theocratic states spiritual leader, reported Tuesday that Rowhani was to be replaced with Ali Larijani, the Supreme Leaders representative to the SNSC, the countrys top national security body.

Iraqi PM delays visit to Iran
Iran Focus: London, Jul. 6 Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaafari has postponed his official visit to Iran until next week, according to informed sources. No reason has been given for the unexpected decision.
The official Iranian news agency reported that Al-Jaafari would come to Tehran on July 12, while Iraqi Ambassador Mohammad Majid Abbas had said earlier that the Iraqi prime minister was expected in Tehran this week.

EU will not accept Iranian resumption of nuclear weapons activity: French FM
AFP: The European Union will not accept a resumption of any nuclear arms activitiy by Iran, French Foreign Minister Philippe Douse-Blazy said Tuesday after talks with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. “The Europeans will never accept a resumption of the Iranian military nuclear activity,” he told reporters with Rice by his side after their meeting at the State Department.
Iran not very optimistic ahead of ‘difficult’ nuclear talks
AFP: The head of Iran’s atomic programme said Tuesday he was “not very optimistic” ahead of key nuclear talks with the European Union later this month and predicted they would be “difficult” in the months ahead. Gholamreza Aghazadeh told the student news agency ISNA that Britain, France and Germany had yet to come to terms with the election of hardliner Mahmood Ahmadinejad as president and may have calculated on having easier negotiations.
