RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Saudi and Kuwaiti officials say an Iranian espionage group has been dismantled in the tiny Gulf nation. It’s the first official confirmation of the operation in Kuwait.

Saudi Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdullaziz says Kuwait managed to “break down” a cell acting on behalf of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

Kuwait’s Sheik Jaber Al-Sabah says the suspects are now being investigated by his country’s judiciary.

The remarks late Wednesday came after a gathering of Gulf Arab security chiefs to discuss the Kuwait operation, indicating their growing concerns over Iran’s undercover affairs in the region.

Kuwaiti media had reported that seven people were arrested in the raid.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman has dismissed the reports as “baseless propaganda.”
