Iran, Tehran, Jul. 23 – Iran’s Foreign Ministry today hinted at Israeli involvement in Saturday’s early-hours bombings in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, as well as Thursday’s attacks in London. Iran also accused Israel of being behind 90 percent of the insurgencies in Iraq.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said in a press briefing in the Iranian capital today that certain “Iraqi parties” had announced that Israel had a role in 90 percent of the bombings in Iraq. “On this basis, one cannot ignore the role of the Zionist regime in the recent bombings”, Asefi said, referring to the series of car bombs and a separate blast which ripped through a tourist hotel and a coffee shop in Sharm el-Sheikh this morning and the four attempted bombings in London on Thursday.

Iranian officials and the country’s state-run media have stepped up the war of words against Israel since the ultra-conservatives consolidated their power with the election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as president in June.

Asefi accused the United States of having created instability in the world through the war on terrorism. “The wrong approach of the United States to terrorism has made the world unsafe and has led to a wave of terrorism all over the world. This is all due to the incorrect and childish approach of the [U.S.”> and its insistence to fight terrorism”.

An Al-Qaeda offshoot claimed responsibility for today’s attacks which left at least 88 people dead, including a number of foreigners.
