Tehran, Iran, Oct. 09 – Iranian officials have announced they intend to continue with a nationwide crackdown on “corruption” in society – a euphemism for suppressing dissent, according to opposition sources.

“The National Security Plan”, which began in April and continued throughout summer, will be extended for a further six month, according to the operational director of the State Security Forces (SSF).

“The National Security Plan has been added to the SSF’s permanent agenda and will continue with decisiveness over the second half of the year (Persian calendar year ending March 20)”, said Brigadier General Iskandar Momeni. His remarks were carried by the government-owned news agency Fars on Monday.

General Momeni said the SSF were targeting “trouble-makers”.

Iranian officials often refer to millions of unemployed young men, who are largely beset by frustration and despair, as “trouble-makers” or “hooligans”.

The SSF is also cracking down harshly on women under the guise of combating “mal-veilers”.
