The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that a company in canton Zug has been charged with illegally exporting goods to Iran.

Prosecutors hope to bring the case to the attention of the Federal Criminal Court in Bellinzona in the next two to three months.

The main suspect in the case is thought to be a businessman based in the town of Baar.

According to earlier media reports, he is a former manager at Swiss electro-engineering giant ABB. The man is believed to have exported goods with civilian and military applications to Iran without the proper authorisations and to have violated Switzerland’s law on war material.

The prosecutor’s office refused to say who the suspects were or reveal the exact nature of the goods shipped abroad. Police began investigations in October 2006 after being tipped off by Switzerland’s domestic intelligence service.
