Tehran, Iran, Apr. 08 – Iran’s Economy and Finance Minister Davoud Danesh-Jafari is likely to soon step down, a state-run news agency reported on Monday.
Danesh-Jafari, 53, is expected to be appointed as Irans ambassador to Canada or Germany, the news agency Fars quoted an informed source as saying.
Among the likely replacement candidates are First Vice-President Parviz Davoudi, presidential advisor Sadeq Mahsouli, and Mohammad-Reza Rahimi who heads the State Audit Court.
The report said Davoudi was most likely to win a vote of confidence from the hardline-dominated Majlis (Parliament).
Irans government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham on Saturday denied media reports that Danesh-Jafari was to be sacked.
Danesh-Jafari was previously chairman of the Majlis committee on economy and finance and a leading member of the hard-line Islamist faction, Abadgaran, in the Majlis.
He is also a former member of the Central Command of Jihad Sazandegi, a branch of the Revolutionary Guards.
