Berlin expresses concern at Iran’s new nuclear activities

Xinhua: German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier expressed “deep concern” on Wednesday at Iran’s announcement that it had started work to install 6,000 new centrifuges to enrich uranium. BERLIN, April 9 (Xinhua) — German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier expressed “deep concern” on Wednesday at Iran’s announcement that it had started work to install 6,000 new centrifuges to enrich uranium.

“Tehran’s move is clearly against the demands of the UN Security Council. Such a step would make the solution to the conflict more difficult,” said Steinmeier in a statement.

He called on the Iranian leadership to take international concern seriously and to halt uranium enrichment, saying that only a cooperative approach could pave the way for negotiations.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic had started to install 6,000 new centrifuges at Natanz nuclear plant where it already has about 3,000 centrifuges.
