ImageVIENNA (AFP) — Iran has delivered scant evidence to suggest that its atomic drive has no military dimension, a top United States official said here on Monday.

Reacting to a new report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) which said that Iran still had to convincingly disprove allegations of military ambitions behind its nuclear activities, the US envoy to the IAEA complained that Tehran was continuing to stonewall the agency's investigations.

"Iran continues to rebuff the IAEA's efforts to investigate troubling indications that Iran has engaged in studies, engineering work, and procurement relevant to building nuclear weapons," Gregory Schulte said.

"The report shows in great detail how much Iran needs to explain, and how little it has."

The IAEA's director general Mohamed ElBaradei "does not report progress, he does not report cooperation," Schulte continued.

Instead, ElBaradei had listed all the questions still unanswered by Iran.

Indeed, "while Iran refuses to provide credible answers to the inspectors' questions, it continues work to expand it uranium enrichment capacity, in violation of multiple Security Council resolutions," Schulte added.
