ImageNEW YORK (AFP) — The White House said Monday that it was "seriously concerned" about Iran's apparent lack of cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog agency's probe into Tehran's suspect atomic program.

"We would echo what the IAEA said today, which is that Iran needs to give the agency substantial information and access if they are going to be proven correct in their claims," spokeswoman Dana Perino told reporters.

"And meanwhile, we will continue on with our path of negative consequences for their inaction in response," she said as US President George W. Bush headed to New York for the UN General Assembly.

She spoke after International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Mohamed ElBaradei pressed the Islamic republic to provide information related to charges of past nuclear weapons work.

"He said that he remains seriously concerned, and so do we," said the spokeswoman.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will meet in New York with her counterparts from Britain, Russia, France, China and Germany — the so-called "P5+1" group — to decide how to proceed, said Perino.
