SULAIMANIYA, Iraq (Reuters) – Iran shelled a remote area of northeastern Iraq for a second day on Saturday, a regional official said, but there were no details of casualties or material damage.
Iran occasionally shells northern Iraq, where it says Iranian Kurdish rebels take shelter. The last bombardment was on Friday.
The artillery bombardment was intermittent, said Azad Asso, a district mayor for Jarawa district on the Iranian border, around 195 km (120 miles) northeast of Sulaimaniya. He said the shelling started in the afternoon and continued into the evening.
