ImageMANAMA – A Shia lawmaker here has slammed remarks of an Iranian parliamentarian who questioned Bahrainis’ loyalty to their country and their Arab origin.

Iranian member of parliament Darius Guenbri has told a parliamentary session that if Bahrainis were given a chance to choose they would prefer to be part of Iran.

“Such statements could affect efforts to improve ties with Iran as no Bahraini has doubts about his/her association with Islam and the Arab world,” member of the largest opposition bloc Al Wefaq Mohammed Al Muzal said in a statement.

Al Muzal asked Darius Guenbri to stop interfering in other countries’ affairs and start reading history books that prove that Bahrain is an Arab country.

“I have sent Guenbri a letter asking him to avoid such statements in the best interests of both Bahrainis and Iranians.”
