ImageBAGHDAD (AP) — Police say Iraqi forces seized a launcher loaded with 13 Iranian-made rockets after an attack against the U.S. base outside the southern city of Basra.

Col. Karim al-Zaidi says the missiles were found Tuesday in an eastern section of the mainly Shiite city.

He says Iraqi forces raided the area after five rockets were fired at the U.S. base late Monday.

The oil-rich area of Basra has been a Shiite militia stronghold but violence has declined sharply following a U.S.-backed government offensive that led to a cease-fire last year.

Still, attacks continue.

Three American soldiers were killed in a rocket attack against the base in mid-July.

The U.S. military says Iran is continuing to support violence in Iraq. Tehran denies the allegation.
