ImageTehran, Iran, Sep. 05 – The deputy speaker of Iran’s Majlis (Parliament) congratulated Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for his “compelling” supervision on guaranteeing that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s cabinet choices were approved, state-run television reported on Friday.

Mohammad-Reza Bahonar stated that the Supreme Leader’s supervision was “a consultative and friendly view which compelled the lawmakers to work more tolerantly with the government”, according to Iranian state-run television.

Bahonar added: “If we had not received the Leader’s recommendations, eight or nine ministers would have failed to win the vote of confidence”.

On Thursday, the Iranian parliament approved 18 out of 21 of Ahmadinejad’s 21 cabinet nominees. Revolutionary Guards Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi, Ahmadinejad’s controversial choice for Defence Minister is said to have received the highest number of votes amongst the cabinet nominees.

Following a trial in Argentina, Ahmad Vahidi was convicted in absentia for the role that he played in the bombing. Ahmad Vahidi is currently wanted by Interpol for his role in the terrorist attack.
