RIYADH – Nine Saudi journalists who wanted to accompany a local football team to an Asian Champions League game in Isfahan were denied entry visas by the Iranian embassy in Riyadh, a team spokesman said Saturday.

The Saudi Al-Shabab Club “forwarded the applications of the nine journalists, who were to accompany the football team to Isfahan for a match with Sepahan Isfahan on Wednesday,” club secretary general Khaled al-Musheiqeh told AFP.

“But the Iranian embassy refused to give the journalists visas, granting visas only to 35 team players and club officials,” he said.

Iranian embassy officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
