Suicide rate among Iranian youth on the rise

Daily Sabah: Every day 11 people committed suicide in Iran, according to country’s official statistics. Around 3,125 people committed suicide in Iran last eight months, among them 982 women and 2,143 men. Statistics show that in Iran suicide among young people aged 18-24 years is growing.

TEHRAN — Every day 11 people committed suicide in Iran, according to country’s official statistics. Around 3,125 people committed suicide in Iran last eight months, among them 982 women and 2,143 men.

Most suicides occurred in the provinces of Tehran, Gilan and Kirmanshah. A suicide attempt is more often observed among young people aged 18-24 (28 %), followed by people aged 30-39 (22%), over 50 (12.9%) and young people under the age of 18 (7 %).

According to Iranian media, the statistics for 15 years show that in Iran the facts of suicide among young people aged 18-24 years is growing. The reasons for suicide are often family problems, psychological disorders, failure in love, education, unemployment and other problems.
