Tehran, Iran, Oct. 29 – Iran’s powerful ultra-Islamist group, Motalefeh, urged President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Saturday to resume nuclear enrichment in full, adding that the West’s threats to take Iran to the Security Council or to launch a military attack are fading.

The front-page editorial in the weekly journal of the Islamic Alliance Party, known as Motalefeh, which hit Tehran’s newsstands on Saturday, bore the title, “Restart Natanz”.

Natanz is a key uranium enrichment site in central Iran. Its existence was completely concealed by the Iranian authorities, until an opposition group, the National Council of Resistance of Iran, revealed it for the first time in August 2002.

“The hegemonist U.S. leaders are becoming insane and desperate at the sight of proud Iranians reaching the pinnacle of peaceful nuclear technology”, the editorial, signed by Assadollah Badamchian, a leading Islamist figure, wrote.

Referring to Western leaders, Badamchian said, “They are very angry and anxious, because despite all their various conspiracies against the Islamic Revolution and Iran… Iran has been able to reach the pinnacle of nuclear technology”. He added, “They are desperate now, because they have seen that they have no option and they could not deprive Iran of this technology”.

“They made noisy threats against Iran out of despair, hoping that Iran would retreat”, he wrote. “Inside, some cowards and some elements aligned with the Americans were recommending that Iran drink the chalice of poison and abandon its peaceful nuclear program”.

“The Supreme Leader and the top officials and the great nation of Iran laughed at these threats and the fearful cowards and the supporters of America”, the editorial added.

“Now the Americans and the Europeans have tried all options. Mrs. Rice’s repeated trips have brought her no gains. They showed that despite all U.S. offers, other countries will not sacrifice their long-term national interests for short-term gains”.

“The Europeans should know that they will gain nothing from going along with the U.S. They will only lose their economic interests to powerful rivals like China and Russia”, Badamchian, who is close to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, wrote.

“The IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency”> has lost its unanimity on Iran”, he added. “Now, only two threats remain: to refer Iran to the Security Council, or to launch a unilateral U.S. attack on Iran. Both threats have subsided greatly and continue to fade away”, he wrote, adding that the Islamic Republic must speedily resume all its nuclear activities and announce it to the world.
