ImageTehran, Apr. 12 – A senior Iranian official on Monday demanded that US President Barack Obama be placed on trial for "criminal" comments against Iran.

"Obama has uttered dangerous remarks and sanctioned an atomic attack and nuclear bombardment of two states of the world. These remarks that authorise atomic attacks against certain countries are criminal [remarks] from a legal point of view", the state-run Fars news agency quoted Vice-President for Parliamentary Affairs Hojjatoleslam Mohammad-Reza Mir Tajeddini as saying.

Mir Tajeddini taunted the US President by stating that Iran's nuclear developments were the "best response to Obama's remarks and threats".

Iran on Friday announced the development of "third-generation" uranium centrifuges which can produce nuclear fuel at a far greater speed than the current models.

Washington last week said it would only use atomic weapons in "extreme circumstances" and would not attack states that comply with the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. It singled out NPT-violators Iran and North Korea as exceptions.
