Iran’s Supreme Leader appoints new defence intelligence chief

Tehran, Iran, Oct. 31 – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appointed a senior Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) commander as the new intelligence chief for the country’s Defence Ministry, state-run dailies reported on Monday.

Revolutionary Guards Brigadier General Ali Shamshiri was appointed as head of the Counter-Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence.

Shamshiri was formerly the deputy chairman of the IRGC’s Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Shamshiri will replace Brigadier General Hassan Zolqadrnia for the post.
