Tehran, Iran, Jan. 15 – Iran’s Foreign Ministry released a statement on Saturday on the international deadlock over Tehran’s decision to resume previously-suspended uranium enrichment-related activities in direct contravention to the wishes of the International Atomic Energy Agency and in breach of its agreement with Britain, France, and Germany – the three European Union states that had led nuclear negotiations with the Islamic Republic over the past two and a half years.

Following a decision by Iran to carry out nuclear research and development at its uranium enrichment facility in Natanz, central Iran, the EU-3 have said that they intend to bring Iran’s atomic file to the United Nations Security Council.

The Foreign Ministry said that Iran had every right to carry out nuclear research activity under article 3 of the IAEA’s charter and article 4 of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)

It said that Tehran was willing to accept further negotiations with the EU-3, but it stressed that any talks would have to be “serious, constructive, having results as well as an acceptable timetable”.

It said that it would not accept any efforts aimed at isolating countries in the region for the purpose of continuing the policies of the “ruling regime”, or the United States.

It called on the EU to refrain from attempting to send Tehran’s nuclear file from the IAEA to the Security Council. “Any illogical efforts to remove the potential for solving this problem from the technical and legal path of the IAEA will completely change the conditions”.

The Islamic Republic “announces that the suspension of negotiations, the putting together of an emergency session of the IAEA’s Board of Governors, and any forceful and threatening methods not only will not help to resolve this issue but will also bring about a dead-end to any diplomacy based on understandings and cooperation”.
