London, Jan. 17 – United States Vice President Dick Cheney met and held talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Tuesday regarding the crisis over Iran’s suspected nuclear weapons program as well as Syrian meddling in Lebanon among other issues.

On Monday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit said that Cairo was closely monitoring the latest development on Iran’s nuclear file.

He said that Egypt was keen on promoting “all efforts aimed at enhancing the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction not only on the regional level, but also on the international plane”.

After his meeting with Mubarak, Cheney flew in to Riyadh for talks with Saudi Arabian King Abdullah and other top officials.

Cheney will also be travelling to Kuwait for a similar round of talks later this evening as part of his trip to the Middle East.
