Iran says UN referral will mean end to nuclear cooperation

Iran Focus: Tehran, Iran, Jan. 28 – Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki warned European nations on Saturday that the referral of the Islamic Republic’s nuclear file to the United Nations Security Council would spell the end of all of Tehran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN’s nuclear watchdog. Tehran, Iran, Jan. 28 – Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki warned European nations on Saturday that the referral of the Islamic Republic’s nuclear file to the United Nations Security Council would spell the end of all of Tehran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN’s nuclear watchdog.

Speaking to reporters at a joint press conference with his Bahraini counterpart, Mottaki said, “If Iran’s nuclear case is referred to the Security Council as is likely by the board of governors [of the IAEA”> during the February 2 session, the government will be obliged under the law passed in the Majlis (Parliament) to suspend all its voluntary cooperation”.

Mottaki described a Russian proposal which involves Iran carrying out uranium enrichment on Russian soil as “serious”. He said that Iranian nuclear negotiators would hold a new round of talks to discuss the issue in Moscow on February 16.

Mottaki defended his previous claims that Britain played a role in two bomb attacks in the southern Iranian city of Ahwaz which left nine people dead. He said that Tehran was willing to provide documents to London to prove its role.
