The mental and psychological condition of the political prisoner has also been described as concerning due to his imprisonment conditions and the pressures imposed on him.

Six-Year Prison Sentence; Five Years to Be Served
Hamid Haj-Jafar Kashani, a former futsal referee, was previously sentenced to a total of six years in prison by Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court.
According to the verdict served on April 28, he was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of “assembly and collusion against the country’s security” and one year for “propaganda against the regime.” Under the provisions concerning multiple offenses, the harsher sentence, namely five years in prison, will be enforceable.
Available reports indicate that the judicial proceedings were conducted under security pressures and that his chosen lawyer was not present, raising questions about the observance of his right to an effective defense in the case.
Arrest During the Nationwide Protests in January 2026
Hamid Haj-Jafar Kashani was arrested on January 4, 2026, amid the nationwide protests. According to published information, he was arrested in front of Alaeddin Shopping Center in Tehran.
He had previously been arrested on April 27, 2025, for carrying a protest placard on Enghelab Street in Tehran. Sources close to the case have attributed the judicial actions against him to his protest activities and positions.
His record also includes a release from prison in 2022 after the implementation of his sentence was halted. Following the opening of a new case, he was arrested and tried again.
According to the latest information received, Hamid Haj-Jafar Kashani is being held in Unit One of Ward Six of Tehran Great Prison. It has also been reported that his transfer to this prison, along with several other political prisoners, was punitive in nature.
