Tehran, Iran, Mar. 03 – Iran will not retreat “a single step” in its nuclear standoff with the West, the country’s First Vice President has declared, government-run Persian-language websites reported on Friday.

Asked by a reporter about Iran’s position on the latest report on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program by the head of the United Nations nuclear watchdog Mohamed ElBaradei, First Vice President Parviz Davoudi said that Tehran’s position was “clear” and that it would not be willing to step back from its “rights”.

“The position of the Islamic Republic is clear. In accordance with our international rights and international regulations we will not retreat even the slightest bit from our right”, Davoudi said.

“The issue of obtaining peaceful nuclear fuel is one that belongs to the Iranian people and we will not take a single step back”, he added.

The IAEA’s 35-nation board of governors will meet in Vienna on Monday when they will have to decide on what further steps to take against Iran which has thus far refused to heed the calls of the UN’s nuclear watchdog to suspend its suspected nuclear weapons activities.
