Tehran, Iran, Mar. 31 Irans former President Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani blasted the Presidential Statement adopted by the United Nations Security Council against the Islamic Republics nuclear program and issued a thinly-veiled threat against United States-led forces in the region if the UN attempted to restrain the countrys atomic pursuit.
If Irans nuclear file continues down the same road as we are witnessing presently, everyone will suffer and the damages the people in this region may see due to these actions will be catastrophic, Rafsanjani, who currently chairs the State Expediency Council, told worshipers during his Friday prayers sermon in Tehran. His remarks were aired on state television.
Realism, wisdom, fairness, rights, and real international regulations must be considered over this issue and they must not allow obstinacy to reach a point where the world suffers and such a historical injustice occurs to the Islamic Republic, the powerful cleric said.
He added that the UN would be disgraced if the Security Council took up further measures against Tehran over its nuclear program.
The Security Councils statement adopted unanimously on Wednesday gave Iran 30 days to suspend all of its uranium enrichment activities and resume its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
