Tehran, Iran, Apr. 04 – Iran’s Foreign Minister vowed on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic would never give up its “right” to enrich uranium, state television reported.

Iran will under no circumstances retreat from its “chosen path”, Manouchehr Mottaki told reporters at a press conference in Tehran.

“Iran began its peaceful nuclear activities to make use of its legal and natural right as a member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty and is continuing such activities under the watch of the International Atomic Energy Agency and in accordance with this organisation’s regulations”, Mottaki said.

“The decision by the Boards of Governors [of the IAEA”> to refer the report on the issue of Iran’s nuclear work to the Security Council was a political one”, he said.

He said that Tehran was willing to negotiate over the resumption of “industrial-scale” uranium enrichment, but that it would never abandon enrichment altogether.

The Security Council adopted a statement unanimously on Wednesday giving Iran 30 days to suspend all of its uranium enrichment activities and resume its cooperation with the IAEA.
