London, May 10 – Most Americans do not believe that the United Nations will be able to effectively deal with Iran’s nuclear threat, according to a poll jointly conducted by USA Today and Gallup.

The poll, conducted April 28-30, found that only 33 percent of Americans say they are confident that the UN can handle the situation over Iran’s nuclear program.

Sixty-seven percent are “not too” (36%) or “not at all” confident (31%) that the UN will resolve the issue.

The survey also found that only one in three Americans would support the United States taking military action against Iran if all economic and diplomatic efforts failed to get it to shut down its nuclear program.

A separate FOX News poll, conducted May 2-3, released on Tuesday, found that 87 percent of Americans saw Iran as a potential threat.

Overall, 48 percent of respondents said that they would support U.S. military action against Iran if there was any chance that Tehran would obtain nuclear arms before U.S. President George W. Bush left office.
