Tehran, Iran, Jun. 12 – Iran said on Monday that it would not negotiate on uranium enrichment despite a package of incentives offered to it by the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and Germany.

“The government’s position on the nuclear fuel cycle has been clearly announced on numerous occasions”, government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham told reporters at his weekly press conference. “It is our inalienable right. We will not negotiate on our inalienable legal rights”.

Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia, and the United States had offered Iran a package of incentives which include help with building a light-water reactor in exchange for it to suspend uranium enrichment activities.

Hard-line Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had previously said that Tehran would never abandon its “right” to enrich uranium.

Western nations suspect Tehran is pursuing a nuclear weapons program under the cover of civilian nuclear activities.
