London, Nov. 15 The British government will work to ensure the prevention of nuclear weapons proliferation, tackling in particular the threats posed by Iran and North Korea.
My Government will work with the United Nations and European Union partners to prevent the spread of weapons of mass destruction, including addressing international concerns over North Korea and Iran, and to promote good governance, Britains Queen Elizabeth II told lawmakers during her speech marking the state opening of the parliament.
The British monarch also said that her government remained committed to peace in the Middle East. It will continue to work to find a lasting settlement between Israel and the Palestinians, to support the new Iraqi Government in its efforts to build an enduring constitutional settlement, and to assist the Government of Afghanistan, the Queen said.
She also vowed that London would continue to work to build an effective and globally competitive European Union and strengthen the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).
Her annual speech is written by the government.
