Reuters: Iran has stopped its oil related activities in Libya and will evacuate staff in the next 48 hours, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported on Tuesday.

TEHRAN Feb 22 (Reuters) – Iran has stopped its oil related activities in Libya and will evacuate staff in the next 48 hours, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported on Tuesday.

“Considering the mounting political pressure in Libya, all the oil activities of the National Iranian Drilling Company have been stopped,” Mehr reported.

The move follows the suspension of activities by many foreign energy companies due to major political upheaval in the North African state.

Fifteen Iranian members of staff will be evacuated, Mehr said. The Mehr report said the Iranian company was involved in technical aspects of oil drilling.

Iran is the world’s fifth-largest oil exporter.
