MONTREAL – A Canadian-based filmmaker stuck in Iran appeared at a closed-door trial Saturday in Tehran, according to a group working for her release.

The Free Solouki group says Mehrnoushe Solouki, 38, is accused of the “intent of committing propaganda” against the Iranian government. In a release, the organization says the doctoral student with the Universite du Quebec in Montreal answered the judge’s questions during the court appearance.

The group says the trial, which her parents were not permitted to attend, was adjourned until an undetermined date.

Solouki, who holds both French and Iranian citizenship, was arrested by Iranian officials in February as she was completing a documentary about the Iran-Iraq war.

She was taken to the notorious Evin prison in Tehran, where Iranian-Canadian photographer Zahra Kazemi was held before she died under suspicious circumstances.

Solouki’s parents posted bail for her release in March, but she has been barred from leaving Iran.
