IRAN: Inhumane conditions continue for political prisoners in Zahedan Prison

-

London, 15 Sep – Reports have emerged detailing the inhumane conditions that political prisoners are being subjected to in Zahedan Prison in southeastern Iran.

The prison is over-capacity to such an extent that most prisoners are forced to sleep on the floor and political prisoners are kept in the same ward as dangerous criminals.

The bathroom facilities are so run down that the queues to use them are much longer than is acceptable. In addition, there is not hot water which means that even elderly or sick prisioners are not able to bathe.

There is also a massive hygiene problem due to cleansing products like shampoo, being removed. This hygiene problem has led to medical issues but the Ministry of Intelligence prevents political prisoners from seeking medical attention.

Another thing causing medical problems in Zahedan Prison is the food, much of which is low quality or not cooked properly. This type of treatment can cause gastro-intestinal distress and lead to prisoners becoming malnourished and sick.
