London, Jul. 12 – Coalition Forces detained two “terrorists” with ties to “Iranian terrorists groups” in a pre-dawn raid in Baghdad, the U.S. military announced.
“It is believed that the terrorists are members of the Special Groups affiliated with Jaysh al-Mahdi, the terror group active in Baghdad and believed to be responsible for numerous attacks on Iraqi civilians as well as Coalition Forces in Baghdad”, the Multi-National Force – Iraq (MNF-I) said in a statement.
“Intelligence reports indicate that the suspected terrorists targeted during the raid are associated with key leaders in the secret cell terrorist network and have ties to Iranian terrorists groups”, it said, in an apparent reference to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Qods Force.
“Coalition Forces also confiscated AK-47s and pistols from the suspected terrorists”, the statement added.
Coalition troops will continue to target the terrorists who create fear and chaos in Iraq by killing innocent Iraqis and targeting Coalition Forces, said Maj. Marc Young, an MNF-I spokesperson. We remain committed to stopping the Iranian influence which serves to terrorise and destabilise Iraq.
