12 caught crossing from Iran into Iraq

Iran Focus: Baghdad, Jan. 11 – Twelve Iranians were arrested by Iraqi police yesterday in the city of al-Kut, south of Baghdad. The individuals who crossed the Iran-Iraq border travelled without valid visas.
Iraqi authorities had demanded in recent weeks that Tehran shut down illegal crossings between the 1500km border.

Baghdad, Jan. 11 – Twelve Iranians were arrested by Iraqi police yesterday in the city of al-Kut, south of Baghdad. The individuals who crossed the Iran-Iraq border travelled without valid visas.

Iraqi authorities had demanded in recent weeks that Tehran shut down illegal crossings between the 1500km border.

Iraqi police said that those arrested claimed that they had come on pilgrimage but had not approached the Iraqi embassy in Iran to request entry visas.

Iraq recently announced that for the time being it would refuse to issue standard visas for any individual without diplomatic or special trade passes.
