Tehran, Iran, Oct. 11 – Iran’s hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, in a meeting with Iraq’s special envoy to the Islamic Republic, blamed the United States and its allies for the insecurity in neighbouring Iraq.

“The Presence of the foreigners and occupiers is to blame for much of the insecurity in Iraq”, Ahmadinejad told Salam Awdah al-Maleki, Iraq’s transport minister.

“All the tribes and groups in Iraq must act in unity, carefully and wisely and be extremely careful of the plans of the enemies”, the hard-line President said.

Ahmadinejad said that the existence of Shiite Islam’s holy sites in Iraq greatly contributed to the development of deeper relations among the two neighbours. He added that the bond was particularly strengthened by unconstrained pilgrimages.

The former Revolutionary Guards commander said the Islamic Republic had increased its support for the Iraqi governorates of Najaf, Samara, and Karbala.
