Tehran, Iran, Oct. 26 – A semi-official Iranian daily, which strongly reflects the state’s positions, carried a front-page article on Wednesday about the Iraqi constitution vote, claiming that the result of the referendum was a rejection of the United States.

The daily Kayhan, whose article was entitled, “Iraqi referendum results: America lost”, said that the Iraqi people’s Yes vote to the Iraqi constitution “has only one loser, which is the occupying forces led by the United States”.

“There is no longer an excuse for them to remain there”, the daily wrote.

It also accused U.S. and British troops of possibly supporting insurgents in Iraq to justify their presence. “American and British occupiers will from now on probably increase their covert support for the terrorists and attempt to create tribal division and a split among Iraqi officials to justify their continued presence in this country”.
