US official: US ready to talk about Iraq with Iran

WASHINGTON, Nov 15 (Reuters) – David Satterfield, senior adviser to the U.S. secretary of state and coordinator for Iraq, said on Wednesday the United States was prepared “in principle” to discuss the situation in Iraq with Iran, but timing was uncertain.

“We are prepared in principle to discuss Iranian activities in Iraq,” he told a U.S. Senate committee in the first hearing on the unpopular war since Republicans lost control of the next Congress. “The timing of such a direct dialogue is one that we still have under review.”
