Tehran, Iran, Feb. 04 – Iran’s official news agency announced on Sunday that government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham had been selected by hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the country’s new Justice Minister.

Majlis, or Parliament, will first have to approve Elham for the post. A vote of confidence will likely take place on February 13.

One of Ahmadinejad’s closest allies, Elham is also his chief of staff.

He had been acting as interim Justice Minister following the death of Jamal Karimi-Rad.

Karimi-Rad, who died in a road accident in December, was both Justice Minister in the hard-line government as well as Judiciary Spokesman.
