WASHINGTON, Sept 19 (Reuters) – Comments by an Iranian air force commander suggesting Tehran has a plan to bomb Israel were “unhelpful” and appeared to be almost provocative, the White House said on Wednesday.
The deputy commander for Iranian air force operations was quoted by the semi-official Fars News Agency as saying that a plan of retaliation was being drawn up for the potential of an Israeli threat against Iran.
“I believe that that sort of comment as reported out of Iran is unhelpful. It is not constructive and it almost seems provocative,” White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said.
“Israel doesn’t seek a war with its neighbors,” Perino added. She also reiterated U.S. calls for Iran to comply with Western demands that it stop enriching uranium.
