Tehran, Jan. 17 Young doctors in Iran are living under the poverty line with many of them forced to find alternative work to earn enough to get by, according to head of Iranian Doctors’ Society.
“Young doctors in our country live under the poverty line. The majority of young doctors, upon receiving their qualifications are sent into army conscription after which they attempt to practice in their own field of expertise. Their income is 1.5 million rials ($150) which is under the poverty line “, Dr. Iraj Khosronia said on Saturday to the state-run news agency.
Khosronia, who is also a Health Ministry official in Greater Tehran also said, “Some of these young doctors, even after the end of their conscription and private practice, choose not to continue work in their line of profession and find non-medical work”.
