Tehran, Iran, Jan. 17 – Iran’s Prosecutor-General has called for United States President George W. Bush to be prosecuted by an international tribunal.

Radical Shiite cleric Qorban-Ali Dori-Najaf-Abadi said a trial should be held for Bush and his allies because of their “threats and psychological warfare” against Iran. His remarks were carried by the state-run news agency ISNA on Wednesday.

On Sunday, Bush told an audience in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, that Iran was “the world’s leading sponsor of state terror” and urged the U.S.’s Arab allies to confront it “before it is too late”.

“Iran’s actions threaten the security of nations everywhere. … It sends hundreds of millions of dollars to extremists around the world while its own people face repression and economic hardship at home. It seeks to intimidate its neighbours with ballistic missiles and bellicose rhetoric. It defies the United Nations and destabilises the region by refusing to be open and transparent about its nuclear programs and ambitions”, Bush said.

Bush should be tried for making the remarks, said Dori Najaf-Abadi.

“Muslims will not be deceived by professional criminals. The White House officials must know that they cannot proceed with their conspiracies”, state media quoted him as saying.

Dori Najaf-Abadi was for several years the chief of the theocratic state’s dreaded secret police, known as the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS). He resigned when an MOIS top deputy was implicated in the murder of dozens of dissident Iranian intellectuals and writers.
