Tehran, Iran, Mar. 11 – Iran confirmed on Monday reports in the Swedish press that it had expelled a Swedish diplomat working in Tehran.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini confirmed in his weekly press conference the action, stating that the diplomat was expelled at the end of February for acting “contrary to political norms”. No further details were provided.

Last week, Sweden’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Gufran Al-Nadaf said that the diplomat had been “asked to leave the country”.

“I have no information as to why”, Al-Nadaf said.

Earlier in the year, Sweden quietly ejected an Iranian diplomat, Sweden’s English-language The Local wrote.
